Introducing Meals by Kira: Why We Built a Charity Into Our App

When we started building Petkira, the mission was simple: help pet owners make better nutrition decisions. Give them tools that actually understand their pet's eating habits, not just generic calorie calculators.

But as we built, we kept coming back to an uncomfortable truth: good pet nutrition is a privilege. Not every pet owner has the knowledge to know what balanced nutrition looks like. And not every pet in a shelter or struggling household has an owner who can afford it.

The nutrition gap isn't just a feature gap. For many pets, it's a survival gap.

Why Meals by Kira exists

Meals by Kira is our charity programme. Every donation goes directly to purchasing balanced, nutritious meals for pets in shelters and low-income households. No admin fees taken from donations. No overhead carved out. The money buys food.

We named it after Kira, a concept from the Petkira brand itself, the idea that every pet deserves a name, a plan, and a plate.

How it works

Donations are collected via GoFundMe. We work with local pet food suppliers and shelter partners to purchase meals in bulk. We report monthly on how many pets were fed, which shelters received meals, and what the food looked like.

You can donate any amount. Five dollars feeds a shelter pet for a week. Thirty dollars stocks a shelter's food supply for a week. Every contribution counts.

Building a company with a soul

We believe the best companies are ones that don't separate their commercial mission from their social one. Petkira exists to make pet care better. Meals by Kira exists because making pet care better can't just mean for the owners who can already afford it.
